Why do you need an inventory
tool? Simple. Gathering hardware and software
inventory is potentially a logistical nightmare. There are also some people out there
who aren’t using SMS or who are in the process of planning a systems
management toolset implementation of a product such as SMS who would find
inventory information invaluable.
This is where QuickInventory comes in. It gets it’s name from being
extremely small and easy to deploy (using your logon script or email for
example). Once deployed the client component runs a scan on the machine and
reports the information back via FTP to a central Microsoft Access database.
Once the information is in the database you can use one of the prewritten
'out-of-the-box' queries that ships with the product to generate your
