"Snap-in Failed to Initialize" Error When Starting the MOM Administrator Console

I would like to install the MOM Management Console Snap-in on to a plain old Windows 2000 Desktop PC.

I tried copying the MOM ADMINISTRATOR CONSOLE.MSC file from our SELECT CD for MOM to the PC, but that isn't good enough because I get the following error:

“Snap-in Failed to Initialize"

If I try to run the MOM SETUP program on the PC, where I would expect I can install the MMC more formally, I can't get past an "Invalid Product Key" error, when hitting NEXT on the "Enter Product Key" Screen where the product key had already been entered for me and is greyed out. I seem to be stuck.

What am I missing? Shouldn't I be able to install the MOM MMC Console on to a Windows 2000 Workstation?

Adding/updating the following Registry entries on the Windows 2000 Professional PC solved my problem, and I was then able to install the MOM MMC without further problems:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager "SafeDllSearchModeTemp"=dword:00000000

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager "SafeDllSearchMode"=dword:00000000

The solution is thanks to our Microsoft TAM.
