Without
posting the entire events, here what I get pretty frequently on my Single
MOM Server gathering from Agents across the VPN:
MCSActiveDirectory:
Op Master Domain Naming Last Bind (12218 milliseconds)
MCSActiveDirectory: Op Master Infrastructure Last Bind (16250
milliseconds)
MCSActiveDirectory: Op Master RID Last Bind (12938 milliseconds)
MCSActiveDirectory: Op Master PDC Last Bind (13500 milliseconds)
MCSActiveDirectory: Op Master Schema Last Bind (6750 milliseconds)
This between the MOM Server
in the US and an Domain Controller on the other side of a 256k VPN.
My question is, the default rules are in place, should I be customizing
these rules to eliminate these alerts?
What do these alerts mean - I know what the 5 FSMO roles are but what is a
Op Master Bind - just how long it took the remote DC to bind to the FSMO
role owner?
I can easily modify the rule to increase the number of seconds in the
threshold to fit my network but is that the right course of action?

I think maybe the reason this hasn't been addressed is that it falls into an
area that is still not publicly documented. MOM contains a number of com
objects that have various methods attached. From my examination of the timed
scripts which run to produce these events and alerts you eventually can only
reach a dead end because within the script if you are just given an object
and method and there is no accompanying documentation to explain what that
method is doing then unfortunately you do end up reaching a blank.
In SP1 the method for AD replication monitoring is altered, there will be a
small application which is installed onto DC's to concentrate on the
directory monitoring and report it to MOM.
