15 Minutes to Report Loss of Connectivity

We are using MOM to monitor about 30 servers. We’ve just got paging going but in our evaluations we noticed that it can take up to 15 minutes for MOM to detect and notify us about the loss of connectivity on any one server (i.e. pull out the plug simulating network failure).

In practice our customers would not be happy about the 15 minute delay. We were more interested in say 1-5 minute notification about a server failure.

I started to look at the heartbeat scripts but am wondering about the proper way to change this notification from 15 minutes to 3-5.

Any best method here?

Use the heartbeat polling that is configured in the consolidators global setting. This will report any servers not heartbeating every ‘x’ minutes. This way you can have a low threshold before you get an event indicating server down.
