I have 3 MOM
servers, one in each zone so there are 3 zones and they are DCAMs and have
their own database and they are in 3 child domains.
So far I have configured processing rules on CENMOM along with Alert
notification and notification groups. As WSTMOM and ESTMOM will be
forwarding alerts to CENMOM do they need these notification groups to be
configured on them also and why can’t I apply processing rules on the Master
(CENMOM) for alerts coming from WST and EST MOM servers?
When I am configuring Alert forwarding it gives me the following error:
“unable to establish
a connection to the data base in the specified computer"
Unknown error 0xC0005085
Result code: c0005085
I have added WST and ESTMOM
servers as agents on CENMOM but I’m not able to get events from agents
reporting to WST and ESTMOM as they are collection alerts. Is this maybe
because Alert forwarding is not configured and that’s why I get the error?

It sounds like your understanding is nearly there but slightly muddled.
While I can provide some answers to this please read the deployment and
operations guides from Microsoft which have some excellent step-by-steps on
how to do this.
I would suggest your main problem is that the error your getting implies
that the WSTMOM and ESTMOM configuration group DCAM's simply cannot see the
CENMOM one, or do not have permission to. When you put the DB name into the
dialog box for alert forwarding the DCAM will make a connection to the
forwarding DCAM to set up the link as it were. That error, to me anyway,
implies there is either a physical communication problem, name resolution
problem or perhaps permission problem in the way here. Can the DCAM
definitely see CENMOM?
Once this is fixed, the case of the notification groups is slightly
different to the question being asked. It's not the case that the
notification groups need to be created in zone and master, as responses are
performed at both levels. For example if you want the notification group to
get notified at zone level have your response there. If you want your
notification groups to be notified at master level, then create your
responses on the computer group in the master that *contains* the zone
consolidators (you should use advanced criteria such as which agent the
alert originated from to ascertain only the correct responses being
generated).
That should sort you out.
