I have the
MOM Database on a separate server and 2 different DCAMs running. Everything
looks good and I’m monitoring about 20 servers and adding more.
I am trying to install the Application Management Pack 1.0 from CD. It
installed successfully on the database server but on both DCAMs I get an
error in the middle of installation "The
Installation program was unable to insert licensing information into the
database. ...etc."
And then a second dialog that reads:
Setup was unable to
complete successfully due to the following error(s):
License Insert Failed

The issue you're experiencing is a setup error when running the Application
Management Pack. This is a known problem with the Application Management
Pack and servers with machine names longer than 14 characters (the server in
this case had 15 characters).
Using a hotfixed version (as SP1 wasn’t available at the time) resolved the
issue.

In my case I am trying to
install the SP1 version of the Application Management Pack. I'm using
Windows 2003 Enterprise with SQL 2000 SP3a. I tried with local
administrator, the MOM service account and a domain admin account all with
membership to ALL local MOM groups.
MOM is MOM 2000
with SP1 and the Hotfix for Office XP (version SP2) to prevent the OnePoint
Service crashing as a result of Outlook 2002 issues. The server is a
member of a Windows 2000 based Active Directory Domain.
This server has all
MOM components installed on it and has a NetBIOS name of 6 characters and a
DNS name of NetBIOS name + 6 char suffix + 3 char tld (15 char total).
What
I found was that there
is a bug with the
integration to SQL Server 2000. I changed the SA password to one with
less than 8 characters and the installation went through without a problem.
If I set the password to 9 characters or more the installation failed as
before!
