Because of a
hardware upgrade I am considering a clean install of MOM. My question is,
can I somehow direct already installed agents to my new MOM server or do I
have to de-install all agents first before I am able to connect to the new
MOM server? If it's possible to do that without reinstallation of the agent
(maybe by setting a registry value or editing a config file), do I have to
do something on the management server to recognise this agent?
Reinstallation of an agent means reboot, which I don't want to do.

If the agents were added via computer discovery, you can change their
associated computer rules to a new MOM server in the same management group
and then run computer discovery. This will force the agents to report to the
new management server.
If you are installing a completely new MOM management group, side-by-side
with your existing management group; you can "multi-home" the agents.
Essentially, you will have the new MOM server discover the computers and
treat them as agent-managed computers. The agents will then report to both
management servers.
Finally, on the old MOM server, uninstall the agent-managed computers. Don't
worry, the agent uninstall checks to see if the agent reports to another
management group and, if it does, simply removes all reg-key values and
rules associated with the old management group. Now, the agents should
report only to the new management group. I hope this helps.

If you are most interested in keeping the data. So, I would recommend you to
do the following:
1. Detach MOM database files from your current MOM database Server and
disconnect from domain. If you want upgrade your Management Servers as well,
I would recommend to uninstall them before taking detaching the MOM
database.
2. Install new MOM database on your new machine which has same name as your
old server.
3. Detach the OnePoint MOM database from new server and attach the database
from old MOM DB server.
4. Install new management Servers if you have uninstalled them in step
If you are not interested in old data, I would recommend to shutdown your
current machines MOM DB Server, MOM Management Servers and add new machines
with same name. Then you should be good to go. Other option is to uninstall
all agents and install them again from new MOM deployment.
