Event ID 10000 When Trying to Install the SUS Client

I've done testing previously on a few systems by putting them in an Organisational Unit with a Group Policy for updating. Today I added a new system to that unit and it seems it just doesn’t want to update. When I start up, it says:

"Applying software management Windows Update" or something to that effect, but then it doesn't seem to work, even if I force it into a detection cycle. I found the following error in the Event Log that may be related:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10000
Date: 2/27/2003
Time: 10:48:52 AM
User: N/A
Computer: 224-IT14301
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 10000 ) in Source ( MsiInstaller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.

The following information is part of the event: Product: Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update -- Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update requires Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP., (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), (NULL).

The IIS logs seem to indicate that the machine is actually downloading some updates. The client system is Windows 2000 SP3.

Windows 2000 SP3 already includes the SUS client, hence the MSI error.
