What Happens if there's No Network Connection when the AU Service Checks for Updates?

Do you know if the Windows Automatic Updates service (which runs a detection for new Windows Updates every 17-22 hours) actually runs again if it doesn't find a network connection? And if so how often?

If AU wakes up to do detection and there is no network connection, it actually goes into a polling state, checking for a network connection every 5 minutes until it finds one.
