After an "installation
successful" AU request
to WUTRACK.BIN, the “message" is
1|0|||||0|0||||.
Does anyone know what each of these delimited values refers to?
For example this shows a "normal" entry:
2002-11-26 21:59:08
10.6.4.8 - 10.6.1.60 80 GET /wutrack.bin
V=1&U=4ba558bba2658743a79267d5ddd810f2&C=iu&A=n&I=&D=&P=5.0.893.2.112.3.0&L=
en-US&S=s&E=00000000&M=&X=021126215909393 200 Industry+Update+Control
Whereas this one shows the
"funny" entry:
2002-11-26 21:59:08
10.6.4.8 - 10.6.1.60 80 GET /wutrack.bin
V=1&U=4ba558bba2658743a79267d5ddd810f2&C=au&A=i&I=ie50x.internetexplorer50x.

The request to WUTRACK.BIN is how the client is able to do the pingbacks
that you'll find in the SUS server IIS log. The delimiters tell the client
what needs to go in the different fields of the pingback.
This is apparently a newly introduced "feature". Actually it is a bug, but
not a terribly bad one. Recently some changes were made to the IU controls
in order to gather additional pingback information when a driver install
fails. The bug here is that the pingback apparently occurs even when the
install wasn't a driver, and the result is the gibberish that you found in
the &M field.
Some people have also seen "1|0|||||0|0||||"
under the "Items"
column is SUS Reports instead of returning the usual data such as =1,2,3,4
or 5.
