What are 'AUCATALOG1.CAB' and 'AURTF1.CAB' and what is their purpose (Release Notes Page 6, under 'New software catalog files')? I'm assuming that these filenames have changed with SP1 from 'AUCATALOG1.CAB' and 'AURTF1.CAB' in version 1.0 or is this a typo?

If this isn't a typo, is this a good way of telling which version of SUS a machine is running by checking for the existence of the '
AUCATALOG.CAB' and 'AURTF.CAB' or 'AUCATALOG1.CAB' and 'AURTF1.CAB' files (just our of interest where do these file live)?

From the microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs newsgroup
Those files live in the root of the SUS server's IIS folder that SUS is installed in. They were changed from the SUS 1.0 RTM versions simply to provide a way for SUS 1.0 RTM and SP1 servers to be able to sync independently, although at this time the CABS are identical ('
AUCATALOG1.CAB' is simply a copy of 'AUCATALOG.CAB'). The purpose is to provide the dictionary objects that the SUS server uses to understand:

(a) what updates are available and where to sync them from
(b) what updates are applicable to what machines, and
(c) the EULA's for the updates (if applicable).

The AURTF1.CAB used to contain the locally cached HTM pages for the Read More link, and used to be close to 12 MB in size, but since the HTM pages and Read More links are no longer used the CAB is quite small now.
