What’s the Difference Between the Different Types of Windows Updates?

Does anyone know the difference between Windows Critical Updates, Windows Critical Security Updates and Windows Security Roll-up? I know they are types of Updates which are supported from SUS but I need some basic security information about what they are!

From the microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs newsgroup

  • A Windows Critical Update typically fixes a bug (like a crash)

  • A Windows Critical Security Update fixes a bug that has security implications instead of just causing user pain

  • Security Roll-ups combine all previous Windows Critical Security Updates into one single package

There are new recent classifications of security updates as well to indicate what the priority or severity of the update is.
