From the microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs
newsgroup
For those of you that missed the post in the newsgroup last month here's
some important information relating to this patch:
Hello everyone,
Today we changed the detection of update "FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions
for Windows 2000 or Windows XP November 2003 Security Patch" (MS 03-051).
Once your SUS server synchronizes with Microsoft the update will appear as
"updated" in your SUS server. The change to the update was to correct the
detection of that update so that it would not be offered to machines that
did not need the update.
More specifically:
On November 11, Microsoft released MS 03-051 that eliminates vulnerability
in Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions, which are components of Office and
Windows. This patch effectively addresses this vulnerability, and all
customers affected received this patch through all Microsoft distribution
vehicles, including Windows Update and Software Update Services on November
11th.
On December 9, 2003, a change was introduced in the detection process of
Windows Update and Software Update Services, prompting Windows XP users who
were not at risk to the vulnerability fixed by MS03-051 to download the
patch. Today, the Windows Update and Software Update Services detection
process was updated so that the patch will no longer be offered to customers
who do not need it.
Microsoft remains committed to helping to improve the security of our
customers, and we encourage customers to stay current with security updates.
Microsoft has no new security bulletins for December. As always, in the
event of an emergency, Microsoft will release patches as appropriate.
Thanks
