Events – See you in Madrid courtesy of Microsoft UK

Earlier this year with the announcement of Windows Server 2012 and SP1 for System Center, Microsoft requested that the MVP Community help raise awareness of these by blogging/ telling people about how they could download trial/ evaluations of this software.

In exchange for doing so if enough people downloaded the software Microsoft would give away various prizes at various click-through levels with the top prize being 2 x tickets to Tech Ed Europe in Madrid.

System Center 2012 R2 and new Intune releases coming very soon

As part of “Blue” wave of releases, Microsoft has officially announced (so I no longer need to keep things secret), at TechEd North America an R2 version of System Center 2012 and a new release of Intune which will be even more tightly integrated. A public preview of R2 should be available around the end of this month which ties in with the public preview of Windows 8.1 with the products all being released by the end of this year.

ConfigMgr 2007 – ‘SMS Software Inventory Processor failed to process software inventory file “<path>\<name>.SIC”’

Problem:

I am seeing Component Status Messages with an ID of 3707, the text of which states:

SMS Software Inventory Processor failed to process software inventory file “<ConfigMgr_installation_directory>\inboxes\auth\sinv.box\<name>.SIC” because the file does not have a corresponding discovery record. SMS Software Inventory Processor has moved this file to the Orphans directory as “<ConfigMgr_installation_directory>\inboxes\auth\sinv.box\Orphans\<name>.SIC” and will retry processing it later.

Microsoft has just released the following KB Article which contains a Hotfix which you should only apply if you are seeing the issue described (you’ll also need CU1 applied before you start) :
